In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka returned from the war to his home in Kobe, Japan. There he started ONITSUKA Shokai, now known as ASICS, with a mission to foster a healthy lifestyle for Japanese youth through sports and athletic footwear. A year later in 1950, ONITSUKA Shokai became the first company in Japan to produce basketball shoes.
