About Lacoste

Nicknamed “The Crocodile,” legendary tennis star René Lacoste founded the Lacoste brand in 1933. In the same year, he introduced the cotton polo shirt — which would go on to revolutionize tennis sportswear. The lightweight and flexible petit piqué cotton challenged tennis tradition and completely changed the game. And The Crocodile was so fond of his nickname that he embroidered it with the now iconic, open jawed, green crocodile logo. The tennis pro’s spirit, elegance, and love of the sport grew the Lacoste brand on a worldwide scale, with the clothing made available globally in the 1950s. Fast track to today, and the Lacoste brand represents a relaxed, nonchalant attitude rooted in quality sportswear and preppy aesthetics.
